Right now, Americans are freaking out over gasoline that costs $2.60 per gallon. The inevitable resulting rise in the price of meat, milk, fruit, and vegetables is starting to give us sticker shock at the grocery store. But really, as any visiting European will tell you, the US is quite a bargain compared to…

The Real Hotel Luxury Tax

ByTim Leffel 07/04/200511/09/2020

I just got back from a few weeks of being an active travel writer, which is in contrast to being an active traveler. For one thing, I stayed in some very swanky hotels in the line of work, while staying at some not-so-swanky ones at other times. In contrast, I have to admit that…

The “Better Right Answer” for Travel

ByTim Leffel 01/28/200506/12/2012

He has published some neat books and even a pack of cards that help you break your brain out of its…

Vacation Time Around the World

ByTim Leffel 07/31/200402/18/2025

I just spent five hours on a Saturday finishing up a ghostwriting project, after working a good 50 hours already this week. But I didn’t do this so I could squeak out the car payment on a new BMW or add a home theater to my sprawling McMansion. I did it so I could…

Traveling in the US? Bring Lots of Money and a Car

ByTim Leffel 05/06/200410/20/2013

I just got back from a wild and wooly four days in New Orleans, where the wife and I celebrated our anniversary by going to Jazzfest. Yes, we acknowledged our joining in this “sacred institution” by drinking for days on end, dropping into our spinning bed way too late at night, and gorging ourselves…
