Time for a Contrarian Travel Guide

Travel DollarsStep right up, Make Your Travel Dollars Worth a Fortune is really here.

I’ve been hesitant to talk about my new book because its journey to the market has been a meandering one. Every CD and DVD release has a “street date,” but the book business isn’t that coordinated. Titles drift out from the printer to the distributor and on to the stores and Amazon on a “when it gets there” schedule. But orders are now shipping from Amazon and the book is hitting U.S. stores this week. It’ll be a little longer for other countries, since each nation has its own distribution fiefdoms. Pre-order and hang for a while I guess.

I’ll link to the press release in a day or two, but meanwhile, one factor that makes this book unique is the inclusion of 12 guest writers who touch on a specific subject they know a few things about. I’ll first mention Joel Widzer, author of The Penny Pincher’s Passport to Luxury Travel. We were a good match for each other. My book is subtitled The Contrarian Traveler’s Guide to Getting More for Less and Joel and I both share the view that the best way to get a deal is to avoid doing what the masses are doing, travel-wise.

You should especially get Joel’s book if you travel enough to hit elite status on an airline or with a hotel group–he’ll show you how to make the most of your miles and your loyalty. For more on how he manages to always go first class without paying first class prices, see his current article on MSN, A Contrarian Trip to Europe.
