Yeah I know, that headline is not correct because one speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, etc. rather than “Chinese,” but I like the way it sounds. And it introduces this cool new book one of the authors e-mailed me about, called Me No Speak: China.
It’s a cool little pocket-sized item that could be a godsend for traveling through China. Instead of you trying to get your tongue around their sing-songy language and trying in vain to decipher characters that might as well be Martian, you can point to pictures to make your point.
I’ve always thought this kind of thing is more helpful in some places than others. I took a fold-out item with pictures on two round-the-world backpacking trips and finally gave up and left it home on the third. But I was traveling mostly in Asia and Europe, where anybody who interacts with tourists quickly learns to speak English. In some parts of the world, especially China, it’s a different story. When you get into the countryside, it’s a really different story.
You can buy the book direct at the Me No Speak website or bundle it with another item or two and get free shipping from Amazon.
